Remap Ubuntu keyboard right control to backspace

2 months ago

I have a backspace keyboard that not work. Instead of change the whole new keyboard that cost around 30$ I just learn how to remap it.

The right control keyboard that never been use. I use it for the backspace.

cd /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols
sudo nano pc

change this

    key <RTSH> {        [ Shift_R               ]       };
    key <RCTL> {        [ Control_R             ]       };
    key <RWIN> {        [ Super_R               ]       };
    key <MENU> {        [ Menu                  ]       };

//become this

    key <RTSH> {        [ Shift_R               ]       };
    key <RCTL> {        [ BackSpace             ]       };
    key <RWIN> {        [ Super_R               ]       };
    key <MENU> {        [ Menu                  ]       };

To make it take effect. Logout and login again.

Because the backspace is being use a lot when we typing so I like to use the caplock for the backspace and get the right control for the caplock.

    key <CAPS> {        [ BackSpace             ]       };//here
    key <NMLK> {        [ Num_Lock              ]       };

    key <LFSH> {        [ Shift_L               ]       };
    key <LCTL> {        [ Control_L             ]       };
    key <LWIN> {        [ Super_L               ]       };

    key <RTSH> {        [ Shift_R               ]       };
    key <RCTL> {        [ Caps_Lock             ]       };//here
    key <RWIN> {        [ Super_R               ]       };
    key <MENU> {        [ Menu                  ]       };

No everything is working perfect. Happpy coding again...
